Ok. So I am not a blogger. At all. But this lonely/lazy seven week break from school/family/friends has led to me searching out and stalking some adorable and hilarious blogs and I have learned that they can be really fun and interesting to read. So starting with a disclaimer that my life is not that interesting and that this won't be one of those cute, witty blogs that you follow religiously...let me say that this blog will be my journal and best friend until I get tired of it. And if you are questioning how long that may take I will let you in on a little secret: I actually started this blog in July and it has taken me 2 months to write anything! But this blog will be full of the events of my life up here in Rexburg Idaho as I embark in my final year of college, things that will probably only interest my family...and even then I'm asking a lot. So after all that self-loathing that makes me want to work on my self-esteem a little, here it is...my first blog post!
I just moved into the most recent of a long line of Rexburg apartments. I decided this semester to be a little adventurous and move into a house instead of an apartment. While I am liking not living with 200 other girls, my excitement for this new place has worn off a little by now. They advertised this little gem as "Aalita Manor" but I think they were reaching a little too high with that name. I am living in the basement of a one story house with six other girls. While I have lived in a house with seven girls before there are two big differences between it and this one I live in now: storage and a dishwasher. Yes, the only way this house fits the definition of a "manor" is in the way that it is completely empty of any technology invented after 1850. No dishwasher, television, or indoor plumbing. OK I am kidding about the indoor plumbing but there is actually a pretty good story about plumbing and this house. Ask my sister about it but be prepared to think of me a little differently. The other downside of this lovely new house is its complete infestation of the the devil's favorite pest: the spider. So far I have found them in my bed, my cupboard and on my towel as I prepared to dry off from the shower. Lovely. Even now as I write this I periodically stop to check my surroundings for any movement.
On the bright side of things I am getting a great lesson in culture as my new roommate is newly arrived from Taiwan with all of her creepy sounding music, weird smelling food, and hello kitty obsession. I made that last part up but I like to imagine she has her hello kitty shrine in her room behind that strategically placed curtain. As I write this she and her friend are chatting away in Taiwanese in such a way that, combined with the smell of salt water (?) and noodles from their dinner, I feel like I am back in Chinatown in San Francisco. Good memories
Ok. No joke. As I was posting this picture I noticed a little movement out of the corner of my eye and see the biggest spider of my life booking it towards me and my computer camped out on the floor. I apologize in advance to the owner of the tennis racket I used to pound that sucker into the carpet.
Well, I think I am done with my first post...and it was relatively painless (except for that spider) so I think I may post again!
